Jack by far was the most popular baby’s name in Dumfries & Galloway closely followed by the name of Oliver. Unfortunately, none of the top 10 names was traditional Scottish names.
It was quite surprising that Thomas was not in the top 10 names especially after the famous engineer Thomas Telford come from the nearby town of Westerkirk. John after the local heroes of John Paul Jones or John Laurie the famous Scottish actor from Dad’s Army who was born in the town of Dumfries.
